Capote

200px-capote_poster.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Truman_Capote

Capote is a film which reels around the life of Truman Capote during his literary phase of his non-fiction novel, ‘ In Cold Blood: A True Account of a Multiple Murder and Its Consequences‘, which he researched along with his childhood friend Harper Lee(To kill a Mockingbird). The book is regarding the murder of a family in Kansas. The film shows how Truman Capote manipulates one of the killers, Perry Smith in order to get information for his book as in why he commited the murders. He later sympathizes and then befriends him.

One wouldn’t be surprised why Philip Seymour Hoffman got a Oscar for his portrayel as the gossiping, non-masculine Capote. Actually in my opinion non-debatable. The other actors were good as Philip, especially Clifton Collins Jr. who played Perry Smith. This rather slow film almost got me emphathise with Perry Smith’s character until he murdered the family. Good Film.

Ocean’s 13

“You take down one Ocean, you face them all. What are the odds of getting even?”

They wanted money and one wanted to get his love back, so they went to heist a casino. Then they had no choice and they went on to heist in Amsterdam where another one’s love is. This time the love intersets are mising whereas everthing else is the same. Reuben after losing his land to Willy Banks leaving him almost bankrupt, inspite of knowing the kind of person he is , gets a heart attack(too bad he didn’t check with his palmist this time) and the Oceans want revenge.

This time Terry Benedict provides them finance for the heist and and Roman Nagel( the guy who got them the 3D egg in Oceans 12) joins the gang. The Film is hilarious, clever, and the characters were good(as usual).

The film looked good. Split screens, rusty picture( looks like Steven Soderbergh used that special HD Digital cam in this movie too), dialogues, no time wasted and fun it was.

Danny and Rusty: Suave

Terry Benedict: Not as cool he was shown in the trailer.

Linus: Gets to be a major player and watch out for the time he gets caught.

Basher: “It’s nice working with proper villans again”, heehee. What good is the Oceans gang without him.

Malloy twins: The funniest characters in this movie. This time you think they won’t fight and ……there they did it.

Saul: :) . Watch out for his accent.

The Amazing Yen: He sure is the grease man this time.

Livivngston Dell: nervous wreck.

Frank: “They might as well call it White Jack.” nuff said.

Reuben: The smile on his face when he comes back after his attack. Priceless.

Willy Bank: Cheat. Jackass. Even though Al Pacino not at his best, he sure was the only man fit to be against all the Oceans after Terry Benedict.

All in all a ***3/4.

Grease–Pirates of the Caribbean

grease-lg.jpg

I’ve always wondered ” How will this movie be ?”. I’ve only seen few musicals, I can even name them Seven Brides for seven brothers, Oh! Brother, Where art thou?. That’s it I guess and these two films remained in my top 15 or 20 for a very long time. So I decided to buy Grease. At first I thought it wouldn’t be that good, but except for John Travolta’s gay walk( well I know it was required in the film), I totally enjoyed it. Especially all the songs and the dances. Very good choreography. Makes you think how crazy the 70s were. All that Gel and small clicks.

Pirates of the Caribbean : At World’s End

piratesofthecaribbean.jpg

Well, I totally enjoyed the film unlike the others who came along with me to see the film. It was 3 hrs long and I really didn’t mind. Maybe because I am a Pirates of the Caribbean fan. It was fun and I guess the predicton I did in the post remains the same ***3/4. Amazing cast. Witty Jack Sparrow…was good as usual, Keith Richards was amusing. Geoffry Rush back as Barbosa was fun too. Chow Yun Fat was k.

Crazy ol’ me will go for Oceans 13 coming week. damn it really is the 3-quels year. Four consecutive weekends Spidey, Shrek, Pirates and then the Oceans.

3-quels

Spideman III
spider-man3_venom.jpg

Ok…Spiderman III wasn’t as good as the second part, but that did not mean that this is a bad movie. It had awesome graphics, cool looking villans, Sandman and Venom. I liked the Green Goblin character unlike Spiderman I, the costume of the Green Goblin was more than satisfactory.

I’d give this film a *** 1/2

Shrek the Third

shrek3.gif

Shrek the third is fun, but not that much as the previous two movies. It has some of the good laugh, like the death of the Frog King and some of the sarcastic funny moments when Shrek encounters Arthur and Merlin. Shrek the third was just satisfactory, but shrek is supposed to satisfactory.

I’d give this one ***

Tomorrow I will see Pirates of the Carribean: At World’s End. I don’t have my hopes high, but Cap’n Jack Sparrow will be good and Barbosa is back. I see no reason why it let me down.

Prediction: ***3/4

But most of all I think Oceans 13 is gonna rock. Atleast by the trailer I think so.

V

Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it’s my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.

WHAT!!!!

first_pic_of_heath-joker.jpg (courtesy wikipedia)

Not that I don’t like it, but this was totally not what I expected.

http://soorajrox.wordpress.com/2006/11/17/everybody-listen-up/

After a look at the fake picture which was done with the help of Adobe probably, I expected a cool, dignified, a-wide-grin-on-the-face ,probably Armani suited Joker. This one blew my mind off……but I think it’ll be ok. With only a piece of jute, the Scarecrow’s costume turned out to be the coolest in the previous movie. Therefore I have faith .

Now I can’t waith to find out how this movie is gonna be.

The Good Shepherd

good_shepherd_iso.jpg Now this is got to be the ultimate CIA movie ever made. As far as I remember, the CIA movies which I have seen are ‘The Recruit’ and this one. The Recruit is the kind which is fast, has a cool actor, dialogues, and other things which stay for some time after the movie gets over. Whereas this one’s deep. It’s a complete slow paced film and one has got to pay attention throughout the film to enjoy it. It has got the actors who all gives a kick in your head( John Turturro, Alec Balwin, Matt Damon(of course), William Hurt, Micheal Gambon).

The Good Shepherd directed by Robert Deniro(who also acts in the movie) revoles ’round the life of Edward Wilson, played by Matt Damon. Characterisation to the core. Matt Damon goes to the other end of his usual acting to do the role of Edward Wilson. This film does not give us the feel good factor. Perhaps that’s what I like about this film.

Who is the good shepherd? The one who looks after his family or the one who looks after his country?

mayday!!

On the 1st of May, I decided not to go out roaming to any malls or to the movie theatres. So for the first time in Mumbai I did not go out of the apartment(except for buying my dinner). Got up in the morning at around 1030 hrs(late ‘cos I watched ‘The Inside Man’ the , switched on the teevee and got so engrossed in the movie Oliver Twist (a Roman Polaski film) that I forgot to eat my Breakfast. After that I read the ‘Hush’ (again), and yeah(…….Dorene, Merin, Punnen and Swen !!!(if it all you guys are reading this)….I know it’s too late to write this, but thank you for ’Hush’….I wanted to write a thank you post and all…It is the best b’day present I could get and I read it in the office and whenever I have nothing to do ( I have nothing to do most of the time)).

After getting the pizza from the delivery guy, I watched 5 episodes of the ‘The Hollow Men’ in my roomie’s laptop

NOTE TO SELF: Do not try this again, as you would puke the off pizza your stomach due to continous laughter.

Then switched on to the teevee again and watched a Malayalam film, crappy it was and for about half an hour I was just changing the channels searching for something interesting until Spidey man 2 came to rescue(else maybe I would have thrown the remote outside the window or maybe not…it’s not my teevee)

After having dinner, I watched 5 episodes of ‘Arrested Development’….I think this is was the most overlooked tv-series. Witty and Wicked. So far I found ‘Bringing up Buster’ the funniest.

Watched ‘Annapolis’ after that,….I thought it is another version of the ‘The Officer and the Gentleman’. And after all that it was 2 am in the nite.

NOTE TO SELF AGAIN: get a life

300

300-the-movie.jpgIt was at October 17th,2006, I read this book. I wanted to read it because then it was going to be made into a movie.

Later the movie released at the U.S and it was to come to India the next week. I couldn’t wait to see how this comic book is made into a movie.

678px-thisissparta_gntofilm.jpg

Last Saturday I went in the morning to see this movie and yeah….It was not bad, it was good. It stayed faithful to the comic, except for some additional parts on showing how strong at heart the Spartan women are through the Queen., the council meet and a traitor in Sparta. Still there is a slight difference on how Frank Miller depicted than the Spartans than how Zach Snyder show the Spartans in the movie. Or maybe there was no difference, maybe it was just me.

The movie was made well, the digital backlot tecnique (like SinCity)300_comparison.JPG came out really well. The fight sequences were awesome and found out after that battle scenes+rock music=nice.Even though it was rated ‘R’ because of violence, I didn’t find the movie gory at all. If it really is , I need a to see a doctor I believe. I found Apocalypto and Passion of the Christ more bloody and shocking.

Technorati Profile

Parzania

Parzania is film which based on the events at Bodhra at Gujarat. Parzania tells us the story of a parsi family. Cyrus and each member of the family does everything to be happy…I dont mean that work hard to do that, It just happens. Cyrus, is a very broad minded father and husband, he never forces his children to anything. Everybody’s got their freedom inside the house. His two children, forms a ‘neverland’ of their own known as Parzania. They, along with a mojority of muslim families stay in a mansion, where they live in peace( the normal indian way). In parallel is a life of an American , Allan, who has come India to write a thesis on Gandhi, but he is not Gandhi. I guess one of the reasons the why the movie got it’s ‘A’ rating is coz’ this guy goes on swearing half of the time.

A train blast happens in Gujarat, and the the blame falls upon pakistanies and the ruling party being a Hindu party promises to punish the people responsible. Therefore hell breaks loose in Bodhra, a curfew is declared one day and the Hindus attack every muslim they see and they attacked the mansion and and killed everyone they got and the Cyrus family while running for their lives loses their son(as in not dead, lost, not to be seen)

The Family try every possible to find their son/brother,complaining to the Police, posters and praying to God.

This movie had a lot of trouble after it was being released. I think this movie was even banned in Gujarat.

Now here is a film which was bravely put out for the people to see. When it comes to the making of the film, well, I’d probably say it wasn’t very good. The director probably got carried away a little and dialogues could have been much much better. But one might get lenient while watching the movie, cos you might get some what involved in the subject and you’d enjoy the acting from the actors’ side.

Parzania does not make you cry, but it makes you feel, long for a India with peace and happiness.
